How to visit Kirstenbosch garden in Capetown, South Africa

  • Kirstenbosch is one of the world's best botanical gardens located on the eastern slopes of table mountain in cape town.
  • I was at the garden in October 2019, here is all the info you need to know to visit.

How to get to Kirstenbosch gardens

  • Though you can drive or take a taxi to Kirstenbosch, I'd say the easiest way to get there is by taking the city sightseeing hop on hop off bus, they make about 15 stops per day at Kirstenbosch in summer and 7 stops per day in winter.
  • I took the first bus, it gets to Kirstenbosch at 9.50 a.m, since October is summer in South Africa, the next bus arrives after every 35 minutes up to the last bus at 16.20
  • For booking, schedules and prices visit their website.

  • Get tickets online at Webtickets or at the ticket booth at any of the gardens three entrances.

Entrance fees

  • R75 for adults
  • R20 for learners aged 6-17 years.

Activities to do at Kirstenbosch botanical garden

  1. Enjoy concerts- quite a number of concerts in CPT usually happen here.
  2. Hiking and walking
  3. For biologists- study plants and animals
  4. Watch birds and wildlife
  5. Photography

Kirstenbosch garden rules

  • There are no bins, take your litter out of the garden with you.
  • Dogs are not allowed
  • I almost got fined for breaking garden rules (forgot to pick my litter), don't do my mistake!
