The best place to buy souvenirs in Chiang Mai for cheap

  • When in Thailand, don't buy souvenirs from shops. They're almost always overpriced
  • My favorite place to get souvenirs is from the Sunday Night Market
  • It's the biggest night market in Chiang Mai, taking up a big part of the entire old town
  • Every Sunday from ~5:30pm to ~11pm
  • You can find all sorts of handicraft there. Also lots of street food
  • To get there, just ask any taxi driver to take you to the Tha Phae Gate, or just ask them to take you to the Sunday Night Market they 100% know where it is

  • Try to haggle. I've had luck getting prices down by 20-30%, and I've also had many vendors that flat out refused any discounts. But doesn't hurt to try. Even if you don't haggle, the prices are still really cheap compared to shops
  • Some photos from the Chiang Mai Sunday Night Market

  • If you aren't in town on a Sunday, go to the Night Bazaar instead
  • It's in the eastern end of the city, a little out of way from the Old Town. Smaller than the Sunday Night Market, but basically the same idea and same stuff being sold
  • Every night from 6pm to midnight
  • Ask your taxi driver to drop you off at the hotel Le Meridien Chiang Mai, which is right in next to the Bazaar
