Visa requirements for Congo in 2021

  • Citizens of countries such as Rwanda, Burundi, and Zimbabwe can enter the country visa-free for a period of up to 90 days.
  • Citizens of countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, and Mauritius can apply for a visa on arrival that is valid for up to 7 days.
  • You can apply for a visa from their embassy in your country or visit their website.
  • The website is however in French as DR Congo is a french speaking country.
  • There are several types of visas that you can acquire to get into DR Congo.
  • There are 1, 2, 3, and 6-month visas of both single entry and multiple entries. The prices for the visa vary from one visa to another.
  • Since 2015, there is a need to show proof that you have received the yellow fever vaccine before being allowed into the country.
  • You need to show proof of an invitation into the country before you are granted a visa.
  • As for tourists, a proof of your hotel booking is sufficient and if the trip is short, a return ticket can also be required.
  • Visas on arrival can be granted to people arriving into the country from countries that do not have a DR Congo embassy.
  • The visa on arrival is only valid for 7 days and can be extended at the DRC migration offices. Here an understanding of french can be quite helpful as you need to write a letter and attach a copy of your passport and identification card.
  • If arriving in the country overland and your country ha no DRC embassy, you can apply for the visa from the neighbouring countries such as Rwanda or Uganda.
  • However, if your country has an embassy, you may be asked to apply for the visa from the embassy in your home embassy.

There are four major means of transport that can get you into DR Congo. They include:

  1. Air
  2. Train.
  3. Road.
  4. Boat.
