Tipping is NOT required nor expected in Hong Kong

  • Tipping is absolutely not expected in Hong Kong and is not part of the culture, including at:
  • Restaurants
  • Bars
  • Taxi
  • Cafes
  • Hair salon
  • Spas
  • Massage therapists
  • Hotels
  • In restaurants and bars, you may or may not see "Service Charge" included on your bill. But either way, you're not expected to anything more than what's on the bill
  • If you're feeling extremely generous, you can always round things up (like for taxi drivers) or leave the change. Gestures like these are appreciated, but by no means expected
  • The only exception is tour guides, to whom you are expected to tip between 20HKD to 100 HKD, depending on how you liked it
