Visa requirements for Libya.

  • Passports and visas are a mandatory requirement for citizens of all countries getting into Libya except for; Algeria, Jordan Mauritania, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey.
  • However, citizens of Jordan are allowed to visit visa-free for 1 month and are required to have at least a 5 year passport which must be valid for at least one year from the date of arrival.
  • Those citizens from Turkey are allowed to visit the country visa free for 3 months.
  • Holders of diplomatic, service or official passports for most of the African countries do not require a visa to get into the country.
  • Only residents of the Egyptian political division of Matrouh can visit without a visa on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
  • These are the restricted visa free people.
  • Citizens of the United States can be allowed to visit visa free by having a letter from a established company in Libya that is sponsoring your visit.
  • Libyan immigration requirements change frequently and therefore you should always consult the embassy embassy before applying for a visa so as to know the requirements needed.
  • According to the Libyan Embassy in Washington DC, USA, a traveler will need US$400 (as bare minimum) in a convertible currency, with the following exceptions:
  1. Tourists arriving as a group, as part of a package organised by travel and tourist bureaus, agencies or companies, which cover their living expenses during their stay.
  2. Those in possession of entry visas on official missions
  3. Those in possession of student entry visas with expenses paid by the Libyan Government.
  4. Those wishing to join a resident of Libya on condition that such a resident provides a grantee to cover the expenses of the guest stay and medical treatment and other requirement
