How to buy Machu Picchu tickets (do it ahead of time!)

  • Machu Picchu limits the number of visitors every day so don't take your chances. I found this website that's pretty useful. It gives you real-time ticket availability information
  • We bought our Machu Picchu tickets in Cusco, at the Ministry of Culture office 2 days before we actually went
  • The office is located here. Opening hours are Monday-Saturday 7am to 8pm
  • You need to bring your passport to buy tickets. They take credit card (Visa and Mastercard only from what I remember)
  • Alternatively:
  • I'm pretty sure you can also buy tickets online at the official website From what my friend told me you can pay by credit card (only Visa it seems) and you just need to print the ticket yourself
  • You can also do it in Aguas Calientes, which is the small city at the foot of Machu Picchu that many tourists use at the base. You get it from the Ministry of Culture, located here. Note: this place is cash only
  • Don't try to do it in Lima unless you speak Spanish well. We looked it up and it was a complicated process
