Iztaccihuatl is a dormant volcano, about 5000 meters high, located about 2hours away east of Mexico City.
I wouldn't encourage doing the trip solo, it involves walking a long distance on uneven terrain.
- For guided tours, you get picked from your hotel in Mexico city together with other hikers and leave for the mountain. ( confirm with your tour company, some don't offer hotel pickup and dropping.)
- Most groups hike to up to between 4200-4800 meters. At this level, you can view the nearby active volcano Popocatepetl mountain and the Mexico valley hence no need to go further, but if the group agrees that you must get to the peak then you will. The hike takes about 3 hours.
- These tours cost about $ 60 per adult inclusive of the park entry charges.
- Lunch and drinks are not part of the trip.
