Best spots to take photos of Neuschwanstein Castle

  • Without a doubt, the single best spot to take photos of Neuschwanstein Castle is from Marienbrücke, or Marien Bridge, where you can take the "classic" shot like this: User submitted photo of Neuschwanstein Castle
  • Marienbrücke is 15 minutes hike away from the castle itself
  • It's free to go. No tickets required
  • You can either walk over there from the castle in 15 minutes, hike up directly from the base village (where all the parking lots, restaurants, ticket office, and other tourist amenities are located) in 30-50 minutes, or take a €3 shuttle bus from the village. You may want to take the shuttle bus because the hike up is pretty steep and strenuous. The shuttle buses departs from this spot, next to Hotel Müller. You need to buy the bus ticket at the booth next to boarding point. You will see this signage (ticket booth is to its left):User submitted photo of Neuschwanstein Castle
  • Once you get to Marienbrücke, there will most likely be a line to get on the bridge. When I visited I had to wait about 10 minutes before being able to get on the bridge. It's very crowded, as you can see in this video from the bridge:
  • Most people turn back at the bridge. However, the hiking trail continues to the other side of the bridge that can take you to higher vantage points with less crowds. So if you have time, keep hiking on the other side

  • Aside from Marienbrücke, another spot to take pictures is along the Colomanstrasse Road (around this spot). There are open grass fields along this road that you can go to and take pictures of the castle from afar. There are numerous road side parking spots along this road, so you should be able to easily pull over your car and go onto the grass fields. You will need a good lens because the castle appears quite small from here:User submitted photo of Neuschwanstein Castle
