Shanghai Private Tours: Reviews of the Must-see of the Bund

Shanghai Private Tour Review - The Ageless Bund and the Quiet Suzhou River

I've spent a lot of time in Shanghai, and I've been in and out of the city a lot, but I can't find a single photo of Shanghai on my hard drive that captures the city's culture and people, so I'm probably just ignoring it.

But the truth is, I really don't know Shanghai at all.

So why don't we find a place to walk around, as the saying goes: if you want to understand a city, know its origins.

Let's start from the Bund!

Take Line 2 from Hongqiao Station and get off at Nanjing East Road Station, walk a few hundred meters to the Bund, and the afternoon gathering place is also quite close to the Bund. Indeed, convenient transportation has changed the radius of people's lives and shortened the distance to civilization! When I came out of the subway exit on Nanjing East Road, I was attracted by the buildings in front of me.

The best way to tour Shanghai's must-sees is to hire a professional guide who is really knowledgeable about Shanghai's past. For international travelers to Shanghai, Great Wall Adventure Club offers the best private service because this company is based in the Unites States and has a large and direct tour operating centers in Beijing, Shanghai and Xian. New China Tours offers a package that includes Beijing, Xian and Shanghai.

Reflections on the Bund

Stepping on the flood control wall by the riverside, I breathed in the rushing breath of the Huangpu River.

Who would have thought that 27 years ago, the land opposite the Bund would be almost deserted?

There was no bridge, no subway, only ferries and two cross-river tunnels to and from the two sides of the Huangpu River.

At that time, the center of the city was actually small, all in Puxi.

Today, Pudong has become the symbol of the new Shanghai.

From strangely farmland to high-rise buildings, from a remote countryside to a prosperous city, it was just a snap of the fingers.

Just like the riverbank at the foot of the river a hundred years ago, this path, once trodden by boatmen and hard laborers, was turned into the financial center of the country and the Far East by the opening of Shanghai as a commercial port.

Choose a balcony with a panoramic view of Lujiazui on the other side of the river.

Legend has it that once upon a time, Shanghai was a desolate marshland with a shallow river flowing through its center. When it rained a lot, the river overflowed and flooded; when it rained less, the river bottom was turned upside down and the people suffered greatly. During the Warring States period, Huang Xie, an official of Chu, led the people to dredge the river so that it flowed northward directly into the mouth of the Yangtze River and into the East China Sea. From then on, both sides of the Yangtze River lived in peace and contentment without fear of drought and flood. People appreciated Huang Xie's kindness, so they called the river Huang Xie, or Huang Pu for short. Later, Huang Xie was named the ruler of Chun Shen, so the river was also called Chun Shen River. This is also the origin of the abbreviation of Shanghai as "Shen".

Shanghai The height of Shanghai has been broken by a series of subdivisions.

Shanghai Center Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center and Jinmao Tower were ridiculed as "three pieces of kitchen" by netizens --- Shanghai Center Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center and Jinmao Tower

It is said that the story of the Bund is the story of Shanghai.

Who came here with a dream? And who's going to leave with regrets?

In fact, everyone who comes here has a story of the Bund, a story of Shanghai.

Today, Lujiazui continues the story of Shanghai.

The magnificent buildings on the Bund and in Lujiazui are a link between the past and the future of Shanghai, telling the story of the past and present of the Bund's dream-like prosperity, and showing a promising future.

History is more fascinating than scenery in the centuries-old architecture of the world.

The Bund is the scenic route of Shanghai, with a total length of 1.5 km, stretching from Yan'an East Road in the south to the Waibaidu Bridge over the Suzhou River in the north. To the east is the Huangpu River, to the west is the old Shanghai financial and foreign trade institutions, standing Gothic, Romanesque, Baroque, Chinese and Western style, such as a number of buildings of different styles, known as the "architectural exposition of all nations", is an important historical sites and representative buildings of modern China, Shanghai important landmarks. In November 1996, the Shanghai Bund architectural complex was listed by the State Council as one of the fourth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

Since 1943, the Bund's official street name has been Zhongshan East Road.

To understand the unique beauty of the Bund, one must take time to appreciate it. That's why it's so important to stay focused, even in the midst of the hustle and bustle.

From this spot, right at the intersection of Yan'an East Road, walk down the Flood Wall and head north along Zhongshan East Road, beginning a journey through a mix of modern and classic.

The sound of the bells ringing at the Customs House must be part of the story of the Bund. Nowadays, every quarter of an hour, the melodious music of "Oriental Red" is heard over the Bund.

The Suzhou River

Looking west from Sichuan Luqiao, today's Suzhou Creek is no longer the smelly little ditch it once was. After several years of restoration, the area has been given a new lease of life, with greenery on both sides of the river, tall buildings rising from the ground, and clean water.

If you continue west, there are many old buildings on both sides of the Suzhou River, such as the four warehouses and the Yanqingli along the Tibetan Road Bridge, and the Russian Consulate General in Shanghai and the former Japanese Consulate General in Shanghai on Huangpu River Road, just north of the Wai Bai Du Bridge, which I was unable to visit this time.

"When boats were on the Suzhou River, the buildings on the shore were pulled by the boat like a foreign film, and then they were replaced by a different scene: rape blossoms everywhere and a blue sky. The large warehouses and people's homes along the bank were slowly unfurled, covering the color of the water. The sky also covered the color of the water, and the people moving in its midst became weak, serif-like." This is a poetic and picturesque description of the Suzhou River by the writer Wang An Yi in her novel Fuping. This was the scene of Suzhou River in the early days, and Suzhou River had been longed for by people like that.
