How to get from Walvis Bay International Airport (WVB) to Swakopmund

  • If you're flying to Swakopmund, you'll be flying into the Walvis Bay International Airport, which is about 45km south of Swakopmund. There are 3 main options to get from the airport are:
  1. Check with your hotel / guesthouse if they offer pickup. Most of them will do so if you ask them. Unfortunately my hotel did not offer this so I couldn't use this option and not sure how much it costs.
  2. Taxis in front of the airport. This is the option I used. There are a lot of people at the airport offering to drive you. Note that there wasn't an organized line for taxi as I recall, and you'll just have to approach these individual drivers and negotiate a price. The price I paid for my trip was 240 Namibian Dollar (which is worth about $20US). If you don't have Namibian Dollar you can also check with your driver if they take USD. My my experience in Namibia it's been hit or miss whether places take USD or not
  3. Privately-operated shuttle buses. These are air conditioned mini vans that cater to tourists. When I was researching for my trip I found Tripadvisor has a list of them. But I think the most well-known one is Raiwin Shuttle Service (they charge 180 Namibian Dollar (~$13US) from my research, but this was the prices from a few years ago so the prices may have increased a bit
  • If you use options 2 or 3, make sure you have your hotel reservation printed, or at least you have the name, address, and phone number of your hotel to show the driver. If you have a printed map of your hotel (or on your phone) even better
