How to take the train from Tunis (Tunisia) to Annaba (Algeria)

  • This is the easiest way to cross the border overland between these two countries, and the only train connection between Algeria and Tunisia. You can't move to Algiers directly by bus if you are in Tunisia, the cheapest option is:
  1. Take the train to Annaba.
  2. Take the bus to Algiers.
  • Tunis-Annaba train
  • This route can be served by up to 2 to 3 trains daily to Annaba and back depending on the number of travelers, at the time I was visiting though there only 3 trips weekly.
  • The distance between Annaba and Tunis is approx 290km.
  • Duration of train ride; 6 hours.
  • Booking: You'll have to book at the central train station in Tunis or Annaba. None of the train operators of both Algeria and Tunisia have included the route on their website so far. Even if they do only people who know French and use the websites comfortably since both national train websites for both countries are in French.
  • Cost: €11.
