How to cross border from Zambia to Zimbabwe at Victoria Falls

Crossing the border from Zambia to Zimbabwe was super easy. Here's how I did it:

  1. Get from Livingstone to the border: Livinstone is the main town on the Zambian side closest to the falls. I got a taxi from here that took me to the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park (the national park containing Vic Falls on the Zambian side) for US$13. The Zambian border post is not very far from this park, you can just ask your taxi to drop you off at the border post
  2. Get exit stamp at the Zambian border post
  3. Cross the bridge: the bridge is really short (5-10 minute walk). Take some photos on the crossing as the view was really nice. After the bridge, it's another 5-10 minute walk to the Zimbabwe border post
  4. Get entry stamp at the Zimbabwe border post: fill out the entry form and line up to get your entry stamp. If you don't have a Zimbabwe visa already, you can get one on arrival here. Most developed countries are able to get visa on arrival to Zimbabwe. Just make sure you have cash USD, the cost of visa was $30 for me. Official Zimbabwe visa requirements page
  5. Get to the centre of the town or to the Victoria Falls National Park: I went to the Victoria Falls National Park, which was right there at the border. It's also super close to the main town on the Zimbabwe side (the town is confusingly named Victoria Falls), like 15-25 minute walk, so it's very walkable unless you have a lot of luggage

Note: if you don't want to walk, or have lots of luggage, it's completely doable to taxi the whole way across. You just need to get on 3 separate taxis

  1. Livingston -> Zambian border post (US$13 was how much I paid)
  2. Zambian border -> Zimbabwe border post (across the bridge; taxis will be available there; should cost around US$2-$4 depending on your negotiation skills)
  3. Zimbabwe border post -> town of Victoria Falls (US$3-5 depending on your negotiation skills)
