Best way to get to Vigan from Manila, Philippines

  • Vigan is located 340 km north of Manila. There's no flight from Manila to Vigan, direct or connecting
  • There are only two ways to get to Vigan from Manila:
  1. Coach bus (both day time and overnight are available) from Manila. This option takes 8-11 hours
  2. Fly to Laoag City, then take a coach bus to Vigan. This option takes 4-5 hours

  • How to get to Vigan from Manila by bus:
  • This is the cheap option but it takes a long time
  • There are at least 3 coach bus operators with daily departures from Manila to Vigan
  • 1) Farinas Transit (best option):
  • Departures at 8:30PM, 10:00PM, 11:00PM and 11:30PM everyday
  • Journey time is 8 hours 15 minutes
  • Price is $17-$19 USD per person each way

  • The best way to book your bus tickets is to contact the company directly through their website. That way you will actually be able to get cheaper fares that what I've written. The easy way to get tickets is to use 12Go (https://12go.asia), which is a major bus ticket booking platform for Southeast Asia. Since 12Go is essentially a travel agent, they mark up the prices of the bus tickets by 20-40%. The benefit of 12Go is that you can book using credit card and through a very simple user interface similar to Expedia

  • How to fly from Manila to Vigan:
  • This option is about 3-5 times more expensive than the coach bus option but cuts travel time by half
  • As I said before, there's actually no way to fly from Manila to Vigan either directly or connecting
  • However, it's possible to fly from Manila to Laoag City, which is a bigger town located 85km north of Vigan City, and then take a coach bus to Vigan
  • Flights from Manila to Laoag are run by Philippines Airlines. Currently there are two departures everyday at 11:55AM and 7:15PM
  • Fare is $50-$80 USD per person each way
  • Flight time is 1 hour 10 minutes
  • Once you get to Laoag City, take a tricycle at the airport (the 3-wheeled motor taxi) to either 1) Laoag-Vigan Terminal, located here, or 2) Farinas Terminal, located here. Both of these terminals are located within a few blocks of each other, and it takes about 20 minutes to get to either one from the airport and cost you no more than 200 PHP ($4 USD)
  • From either the Laoag-Vigan Terminal or the Farinas Terminal, hop on a coach bus to Vigan
  • I'm not sure what the schedule is like for buses leaving from the Laoag-Vigan Terminal
  • From the Farinas Terminal, there are 5 buses everyday at 7:00AM, 8:00PM, 8:30PM, 11:00PM, and 11:30PM. Bus costs just $3 USD. Travel time is 1h45min, but can be delayed to 2-3 hours
